"My Mom Found Her Sparkle"

Sweet story from a friend. Enjoy!

Mother's Day always causes me to reflect on growing up as my mother's daughter, what she was like, and how she formed us. I'm so excited to be giving her a charm necklace, and there's a reason why.

When I was growing up, Mom kept things simple. Jewelry was not much of her fashion personality. In fact, I believe she wore the same pair of small gold hoop earrings for 40 years. On a special occasion, she'd switch to understated pearls: holidays, church on Sunday, dates with my Dad.

In the past few years, I've noticed Mom wearing more jewelry, changing her jewelry (as in, not the same earrings every day!), expanding her choices and having fun with it. It's as if she's discovered the fun of a fashion personality, and she looks GREAT.

Mom is a careful person. She's not overly indulgent or artificial, but in little ways she's renewed her appearance and she looks younger, alive, and always a lady.

Fifteen years ago, I wouldn't have gifted her a charm necklace. Today, I've chosen it because I know she'll wear it and enjoy the charms that represent our unique relationship. For starters, I'm sending her "flowers" for Mother's Day. Next, the flip flop because she's a beach-lovin' gal. Of course we need to help her boast that she's a grandma. I especially love that I can add to this perfect gift the next time I want to treat her to something special.

Here's to you, Mom.
