Fine silver (99.9% pure) is generally too soft
for producing functional objects; therefore, the silver is usually alloyed with
copper to give it strength while preserving the malleability and beauty of the precious metal. To be called sterling
silver, the sterling silver standard of minimum “millesimal fineness” (or purity of the silver) must be met. The jewelry can then hold
the designation of .925 sterling silver.
In addition, sterling silver that passes this test must, by law, be
stamped .925 on every piece of jewelry to inform the consumer of the quality of
the product.
The “Sterling” in “Sterling Silver” indicates that the silver is
of the highest quality—meaning that .925 Sterling Silver is 92.5% silver. So,
you can look (and feel) confident knowing that when you wear sterling silver
jewelry, you’re wearing only the finest…perfect for a stylish girl like you!
